February 15, 2010 -- FSC affiliate, John Higgins, establishes the British American Sporting Club
As you read this story, February 2010,
work is underway to bring the finesse and acumen of the highest caliber
of services in outdoor recreation to a new venue in the resort industry.
Under the auspices of the managing partners, John Higgins and Rhonda
Young, the British American Sporting Club is being built in historic
Crawfordville, Georgia, in the United States.
Higgins has a background of expert
shooting instruction and shooting instructor training as well as
teaching many other recreational pursuits. He brings to the venture the
experience of twenty years instructing at The Yeavely Estate in
Derbyshire, England. Since 1991, he has been in
the United States, instructing and training nationally and
internationally, as well as developing shooting and outdoor recreational
facilities at The Greenbrier Hotel, Blackberry Farm and Max McGraw
Wildlife Foundation to name but a few. In addition, Higgins helped to
create and institute the national standard for training and certifying
shooting instructors in the United States, as Chief Instructor for the
National Sporting Clays Association.
Young holds a Bachelor’s degree in
Recreation and Tourism Management form Georgia Southern University. She
brings over ten years experience in recreational program design,
facility layout and event planning to the mix. In addition, she is an
avid outdoor recreationist and has obtained certification in five
environmental education curricula. Since 2007, Young has spent much of
her time researching and writing marketing plans and developing staff
training programs for recreation based businesses. She has completed
projects for The Fork Farm & Stables, Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation
and Liberty Hill Farm.
Located in the southeast United States,
the new British American Sporting Club will benefit from its location
in the state of Georgia, only ninety miles from Atlanta, which receives a
staggering 37 million visitors each year, and fifty miles from Augusta,
home of the Augusta Nationals Golf Tournament. The culture and people
of Georgia are an asset to the club as well. Known for their kind,
refined manners, they typify what we know as “Southern hospitality”,
making the club a great choice for those who want to immerse themselves
in the history, heritage and hospitality of the region.
Crawfordville is located in northeast
Georgia in the region known as the Classic South. She counts among her
distinguished sons, Alexander H. Stephens, who served as U.S.
Congressman, Governor of Georgia, and most notably as Vice-President of
the Confederate States of America, 1861-1865. Stephen’s home, Liberty
Hall, is preserved as a museum and is part of the A.H. Stephens State
Park and Historic Site, and is open to the public. Crawfordville’s
historic nature and architecture have made it the choice of Hollywood
film makers looking for that authentic, Southern town. A total of 13
movies have been made here to include the 2009 filming of “Get Low”,
starring Robert Duvall and Sissy Spacek.
The
British American Sporting Club will span 112 acres and offer
accommodations for dining, sporting clays, archery, air rifle,
paintball, horseback riding, an outfitting service, quail hunting nearby
and an off-road driving course. Assisting in the development of the
club are Roy VanGiller, master carpenter of record and Lamar Nix of
F&M Bank in Crawfordville, and the Taliaferro County Chamber of
Commerce and tremendous support from elected officials.
January 22, 2010 - Beretta partners with Field Sport Concepts affiliate Sporting Heritage Group to launch Beretta Trident Program.
The Beretta Trident Program
was introduced in the United States at the Safari Club International
meeting in Reno, Nevada, January 22, 2010. Initially, this program is
designed to provide sportsmen and women an objective assessment of
sporting venues offering wing shooting and/or shotgun shooting sports in
the United States, and ultimately, of any venue of interest, including
sporting clubs, gun clubs, shooting estates, and leisure real estate,
world wide.
Beretta, the noted purveyor of quality firearms for over 500 years, has partnered with Sporting Heritage Group to manage all aspects of the program. Sporting
Heritage Group will employ a unique rating system to make its
assessments and grant Beretta's quality endorsement. The program is
intended to advocate for the traditional heritage of the sporting life
while providing much needed consumer confidence in selecting sporting
destinations.
The Beretta Trident Program will result
in venues receiving Beretta Tridents to recognize the level of
excellence in quality, similar to the Michelin Star program for fine
dining. This detailed and
specific evaluation will address the complete spectrum of services
offered, from professionalism of staff to knowledge of the guide corps,
from stock and performance of the dogs to lodging accommodations and
hospitality.
The Trident marquee of quality will be
awarded only to venues reflecting Beretta’s commitment to excellence,
and will become a beacon for those seeking locations offering Beretta
firearms, accessories and apparel.
October 29, 2009 - McKee Carson principal, Bob McKee, participates in Bundoran Farm's Residential Development and the Working Landscape symposium.
Located at Bundoran Farm in Albemarle County, Virginia,
The Baldwin Center for Preservation Development is a non-profit
foundation that describes its mission as “to showcase innovative
practices in agricultural preservation, environmental stewardship and
sustainable growth”.
To further its mission, The
Baldwin Center sponsored its inaugural symposium, Residential
Development and the Working Landscape in October 2009. McKee
Carson principal Bob McKee participated in the symposium along with
more than 50 others from private, public and non-profit sector interests
around the country representing farming and agriculture, forestry,
outdoor recreation, land trusts and conservation, development and real
estate. They were joined by professors from the
Universities of Virginia, North Carolina, and Massachusetts, as well as
Ohio State and Harvard. The major non-profit
organizations represented were The Nature Conservancy, the Chesapeake
Bay Foundation, the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, the U.S.
Green Building Council and the Piedmont Environmental Council.
Bundoran Farm was developed jointly by Qroe Farm Preservation Development and Celebration Associates and master planned and engineered by McKee Carson, incorporating many of the ideas and practices of Field Sport Concepts, Ltd. This
project is an example of the integration of residential use with a
working farm and preservation of rural and forest landscape that allows
people to interact on many levels without destroying the character and
natural resources of the land.
You can read a complete account of the symposium at http://blog.bundoranfarm.com/build-it-farm-it-and-they-will-come/.
Audubon International has designated Bundoran Farm as a
"Certified Gold Signature Sanctuary" an honor awarded only to those
developments which are designed, constructed, and maintained according to
Audubon International's exacting standards for planning and environmental
stewardship. Bundoran Farm is the first
development in the Commonwealth
of Virginia to receive
this honor and the first working farm to be certified in the Audubon
International Signature Programs.
This
award recognizes the values that Field Sport Concepts has always
espoused -- developing land in an environmentally sustainable manner
while maintaining the economic value for the landowner. Conservation of
rural land and wildlife habitat can coexist with the manmade landscape
to create a place that is preserved for future generations.
